英文翻譯[高二英文]
“A strong earthquake will hit Taiwan on June 4, 2010. Everyone should leave Taiwan before that day. ”One e-mail says this. Another e-mail says that there is a new rule in Taiwan. You must walk on the left side on the street or you will be punished.
Are these e-mails true? Should you believe them? Only one thing is for sure: e-mail such as these are very popular on the Internet today.
Actually, the two e-mails above are not true. They are rumors, and they are sometimes called “urban legends.” Many people are tricked by these urban legends, because the stories form e-mail seem to be real. For example, in the e-mail about walking on thee left side of the street, the e-mail says that it is from the government.
Of course, many rumors are harmless, and some are even funny. One e-mail, for instance, says not to go to the bathroom on November 1, because a crocodile will attack anyone who uses the toilet that day.
However, some rumors can cause trouble. One e-mail said that a restaurant in Taichung was dirty and served was dirty and served unhealthy food. The restaurant was actually very clean. But because of this rumor, customers stopped going to the restaurant, and it closed down.
Who started this rumor and sent this e-mail? No one knows. But the person who did it was wrong. Yet, the people who read e-mail believed it, and forwarded it to others, were also wrong.
So, next time you receive the following e-mail, you may have think twice before you forward it.
